Tryout Groups

To manage high interest and ensure fair evaluation, we prepare for large numbers of players attending tryouts by splitting each age group into two groups - Group 1 and Group 2. This allows each player more focused time on the field and ensures evaluators can give every athlete the attention they deserve.

Group assignments will be shared approximately one week prior to the first tryout date for each division. Please watch your inbox carefully and check your junk folder just in case.

Evaluations & Team Selection

Our goal is to make the process fair, consistent, and focused on development and team fit.  During tryouts, players are evaluated by evaluators and coaches using a mix of measurable results and on-field observations. These include technical skills, decision-making, effort, attitude, and coachability.

We use TeamGenius to track both quantitative and qualitative scores, and evaluators also capture metrics such as bat and ball velocity, along with video footage during sessions for internal review.

Final rosters are selected by the Padres Director in collaboration with evaluators and coaches, using the full body of tryout data and performance.

If you have questions about tryouts, evaluations, or team selection that aren’t answered here, please contact the Padres Director.

AAA Tryout Requirement -- 13U & 15U

NEW FOR 2026 -- NEZ 13U & 15U players who wish to play AAA baseball are now directed to try out with the SEEBA Edmonton Expos this season. The Edmonton baseball associations are moving toward a combined AAA program, and while NEZ is not formally signed on yet, we are supporting and promoting the development of this program to strengthen the competitiveness of our sport in our City.

These players are strongly encouraged to also tryout with the Padres 13U or 15U AA in case they do not secure a AAA spot elsewhere.

SEEBA Tryout Info & Registration Link

Please Note that the SEEBA 13U & 15U AAA tryouts run Feb 14 to Mar 1, 2026, a bit earlier than our Padres tryouts.
